Product states of a product of finite targets

i. Overview

The product state `(ψ ⊗ φ) (a, b) = ψ a φ b` of two unit vectors describes two uncorrelated coordinates. An observable acting on one coordinate only sees that coordinate: its mean, its variance, its covariance with another such observable and their centered Gram defect are those of the factor state.

ii. Key results

- `prodVec` : the product vector `ψ ⊗ φ`, of norm `‖ψ‖ ‖φ‖` by `norm_prodVec`. - `onFst_prodVec`, `onSnd_prodVec` : `(A ⊗ 1) (ψ ⊗ φ) = A ψ ⊗ φ` and `(1 ⊗ B) (ψ ⊗ φ) = ψ ⊗ B φ`. - `onFstObservable`, `onSndObservable` : an observable acting on one coordinate. - `variance_onFstObservable`, `covariance_onFstObservable`, `centeredGramDefect_onFstObservable` : the statistics of the first coordinate. - `variance_onSndObservable`, `covariance_onSndObservable`, `centeredGramDefect_onSndObservable` : the statistics of the second coordinate.

Product vector ψ⊗ϕ\psi \otimes \phi

For finite sets α\alpha and β\beta, let Hα\mathcal{H}_\alpha and Hβ\mathcal{H}_ \beta be finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces. For vectors ψ∈Hα\psi \in \mathcal{H}_\alpha and ϕ∈Hβ\phi \in \mathcal{H}_\beta, the product vector ψ⊗ϕ\psi \otimes \phi is a vector in the Hilbert space Hα×β\mathcal{H}_{\alpha \times \beta} defined such that its components are given by (ψ⊗ϕ)(a,b)=ψ(a)ϕ(b)(\psi \otimes \phi)(a, b) = \psi(a) \phi(b) for all a∈αa \in \alpha and b∈βb \in \beta.

For finite sets α\alpha and β\beta, let ψ∈Hα\psi \in \mathcal{H}_\alpha and ϕ∈Hβ\phi \in \mathcal{H}_\beta be vectors in their respective finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces. For any pair p=(a,b)∈α×βp = (a, b) \in \alpha \times \beta, the component of the product vector ψ⊗ϕ\psi \otimes \phi at index pp is given by the product of the individual components: (ψ⊗ϕ)(a,b)=ψ(a)⋅ϕ(b)(\psi \otimes \phi)(a, b) = \psi(a) \cdot \phi(b)

Let Hα\mathcal{H}_\alpha and Hβ\mathcal{H}_\beta be finite-dimensional complex Hilbert spaces indexed by finite sets α\alpha and β\beta. Let Hα\mathcal{H}_\alpha and Hβ\mathcal{H}_\beta be finite-dimensional complex Hilbert spaces indexed by finite sets α\alpha and β\beta. definition

Observable acting on the first coordinate A⊗IA \otimes I

Given an observable AA (a self-adjoint linear operator) acting on the finite-dimensional complex Hilbert space Hα\mathcal{H}_\alpha, `onFstObservable` defines the corresponding observable on the product Hilbert space Hα×β\mathcal{H}_{\alpha \times \beta} that acts only on the first subsystem. This represents the operator A⊗IA \otimes I, where II is the identity operator on Hβ\mathcal{H}_\beta. For a state vector Ψ∈Hα×β\Psi \in \mathcal{H}_{\alpha \times \beta}, the action is given by (A⊗I)Ψ(a,b)=∑a′∈α⟨a∣A∣a′⟩Ψ(a′,b) (A \otimes I) \Psi(a, b) = \sum_{a' \in \alpha} \langle a | A | a' \rangle \Psi(a', b) where (a,b)∈α×β(a, b) \in \alpha \times \beta and ⟨a∣A∣a′⟩\langle a | A | a' \rangle denotes the matrix elements of AA with respect to the standard basis of Hα\mathcal{H}_\alpha.

definition

Observable acting on the second coordinate of Hα×β\mathcal{H}_{\alpha \times \beta}

For an observable BB acting on the finite-dimensional complex Hilbert space Hβ\mathcal{H}_\beta, `onSndObservable B` is the observable on the product Hilbert space Hα×β\mathcal{H}_{\alpha \times \beta} that acts on the second coordinate. Mathematically, this represents the operator Iα⊗BI_\alpha \otimes B, where IαI_\alpha is the identity operator on Hα\mathcal{H}_\alpha.
