The vector-measure integral against a scalar matrix coefficient
For a bounded multiplier `f`, testing the spectral integral against two vectors and integrating the scalar spectral measure give the same result: `⟪y, (∫ f dμS) x⟫ = ∫ f d(μS.scalarMeasure x y)`. The right-hand side makes sense for unbounded `f` as well, which gives the weak integrals `∫ f d⟪y, μS(·) x⟫` used to state `T = ∫ λ dE(λ)` vector by vector.

If the total variation of is finite, then the inner product of with the vector-valued spectral integral of acting on is equal to the integral of with respect to the scalar measure :
Weak integral of a real-valued function
For a real-valued function and vectors , the weak integral is defined as the integral of with respect to the complex scalar measure associated with the spectral measure , where . The integration is performed using the scalar multiplication of the real values of on the complex values of the measure.
Complex weak integral
For a spectral measure , a complex-valued multiplier function , and two vectors in a Hilbert space, the complex weak integral is the integral of with respect to the complex-valued scalar measure associated with and the vectors . This scalar measure is defined such that for any measurable set , . The integral is denoted as .

Change of Variables for Complex Weak Integrals of Spectral Measures
Let be a spectral measure on a measurable space acting on a Hilbert space , and let be a measurable function. For any vectors and a complex-valued function , if is almost everywhere strongly measurable with respect to the pushforward of the variation of the scalar measure (where ), and is integrable with respect to , then the complex weak integral of with respect to the pushforward spectral measure satisfies:
