The trace pairing
i. Overview
A bounded operator `A` defines a bounded functional `T ↦ Tr (A T)` on the trace-class operators, of norm at most `‖A‖`. The assignment `A ↦ Tr (A ·)` is itself a bounded linear map from bounded operators to the dual of `𝒮₁(H)`.
ii. Key results
- `norm_trace_le` : `‖Tr T‖ ≤ ‖T‖₁`. - `TraceClass.tracePairing` : the functional `T ↦ Tr (A T)`. - `TraceClass.norm_tracePairing_le` : its norm is at most `‖A‖`. - `TraceClass.tracePairingContinuousLinearMap` : the trace pairing as a bounded linear map into the dual.

for trace-class operators
Let be a complex Hilbert space and let be a trace-class bounded linear operator. Then the absolute value of the trace of is bounded by its trace norm: where is the trace of and is its trace norm.

Let be a complex Hilbert space and let and be bounded linear operators on . If and is a trace-class operator (meaning the sum of the diagonal entries of its absolute value converges), then is also a trace-class operator and their traces are equal: where the trace is defined as the sum of the diagonal entries for a Hilbert basis .
is trace-class for and
