Projection resolutions in JBW-algebras

`MeasurableProjectionResolution` is defined at the weaker Jordan order-unit level and reuses the entire effect-valued-measure API. This JBW file adds the two genuinely JBW ingredients: normal states produce ordinary probability laws, and the separating normal-state family detects equality of projection resolutions.

It is deliberately only the bounded spectral-measure boundary. An unbounded Hilbert-space spectral integral carries an additional square-moment domain and remains a represented/affiliated construction above this intrinsic JBW layer.

definition

Unital positive identity map E→WithOrderUnitNorm(E)E \to \text{WithOrderUnitNorm}(E)

Let EE be a Jordan order-unit space. This definition is the unital positive linear map from EE to its type synonym WithOrderUnitNorm(E)\text{WithOrderUnitNorm}(E), which represents EE equipped with the order-unit norm. The map is the identity on the underlying algebraic and order structures, meaning it maps each element x∈Ex \in E to itself while preserving the positive cone (x≥0  ⟹  x≥0x \ge 0 \implies x \ge 0) and the identity element (1↦11 \mapsto 1).

theorem

The identity map E→WithOrderUnitNorm EE \to \text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E is normal

Let EE be a Jordan order-unit space. The unital positive linear map id:E→WithOrderUnitNorm E\text{id} : E \to \text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E, which acts as the identity on the underlying ordered set, is normal. That is, for any non-empty directed subset D⊆ED \subseteq E, the map preserves the least upper bound: id(sup⁡D)=sup⁡(id(D))\text{id}(\sup D) = \sup (\text{id}(D)).

definition

Unital positive linear map from WithOrderUnitNorm E\text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E to EE

For a JBW-algebra or an order-unit space EE, let WithOrderUnitNorm E\text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E denote the same space equipped with its order-unit norm. This definition provides the unital positive linear map from WithOrderUnitNorm E\text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E back to EE induced by the inverse of the canonical linear isomorphism between them. This map acts as the identity on the underlying elements and satisfies the properties of being positive (mapping the positive cone to itself) and unital (mapping the identity element to itself).

theorem

The Inverse Norm-Copy Channel is Normal

Let EE be a JBW-algebra. The unital positive linear map Φ:WithOrderUnitNorm E→E\Phi: \text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E \to E, which identifies the space EE equipped with its order-unit norm with the original space EE (acting as the identity on elements), is normal. This means that Φ\Phi preserves the suprema of directed sets: for any non-empty directed subset D⊆WithOrderUnitNorm ED \subseteq \text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E with least upper bound xx, the image Φ(x)\Phi(x) is the least upper bound of the set Φ(D)\Phi(D) in EE.

definition

Identity channel R→WithOrderUnitNorm R\mathbb{R} \to \text{WithOrderUnitNorm } \mathbb{R}

This definition represents the scalar identity channel, which is a unital positive linear map from the real numbers R\mathbb{R} to the space R\mathbb{R} equipped with its explicit order-unit-norm structure (denoted as WithOrderUnitNorm R\text{WithOrderUnitNorm } \mathbb{R}). The map is defined as the identity on the underlying scalars, which is inherently positive and unital (sending 1∈R1 \in \mathbb{R} to the order unit 11 in WithOrderUnitNorm R\text{WithOrderUnitNorm } \mathbb{R}).

theorem

The identity channel on R\mathbb{R} is normal

The unital positive linear map ϕ:R→WithOrderUnitNorm R\phi: \mathbb{R} \to \text{WithOrderUnitNorm } \mathbb{R}, defined as the identity map on the real numbers, is normal. That is, it preserves the suprema of all non-empty directed sets of real numbers.

definition

Normal state as a channel WithOrderUnitNorm E→WithOrderUnitNorm R\text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E \to \text{WithOrderUnitNorm } \mathbb{R}

Given a state ω\omega on an order-unit space EE, this definition constructs a unital positive linear map (a "channel") from EE equipped with its explicit order-unit norm, denoted as WithOrderUnitNorm E\text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E, to the real numbers R\mathbb{R} equipped with its explicit order-unit norm. The map is the composition iR∘ω∘iE−1i_{\mathbb{R}} \circ \omega \circ i_E^{-1}, where iE−1:WithOrderUnitNorm E→Ei_E^{-1}: \text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E \to E and iR:R→WithOrderUnitNorm Ri_{\mathbb{R}}: \mathbb{R} \to \text{WithOrderUnitNorm } \mathbb{R} are the canonical identity maps between the spaces and their order-unit-normed versions.

theorem

Normality of a state ω\omega implies normality of the induced channel between order-unit-normed spaces

Let EE be an order-unit space and ω\omega be a state on EE (a unital positive linear map from EE to R\mathbb{R}). If ω\omega is normal—that is, it preserves the suprema of all non-empty directed sets—then the induced unital positive linear map ω~:WithOrderUnitNorm E→WithOrderUnitNorm R\tilde{\omega} : \text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E \to \text{WithOrderUnitNorm } \mathbb{R} (which transports ω\omega to the spaces equipped with their explicit order-unit norms) is also normal.

definition

Bounded Borel integral ∫f dP\int f \, dP in WithOrderUnitNorm E\text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E

Let Ω\Omega be a measurable space and EE be a JBW-algebra. Given a measurable projection resolution PP on Ω\Omega taking values in EE and a measurable function f:Ω→Rf: \Omega \to \mathbb{R} bounded by a constant MM (such that ∣f(x)∣≤M|f(x)| \le M for all x∈Ωx \in \Omega), this definition constructs the integral of ff against PP. The integral is computed by viewing PP as an effect-valued measure and mapping it via the identity channel into WithOrderUnitNorm E\text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E (the space EE equipped with its explicit order-unit norm). The result is the spectral integral: ∫Ωf(λ) dP(λ) \int_{\Omega} f(\lambda) \, dP(\lambda) which belongs to the space WithOrderUnitNorm E\text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E. The existence of this integral is guaranteed by the fact that JBW-algebras are complete with respect to the order-unit norm.

theorem

The bounded Borel integral of an indicator function 1s\mathbf{1}_s equals ι(P(s))\iota(P(s))

Let Ω\Omega be a measurable space and EE be a JBW-algebra. Let PP be a measurable projection resolution on Ω\Omega taking values in EE. For any measurable set s⊆Ωs \subseteq \Omega, let 1s:Ω→R\mathbf{1}_s: \Omega \to \mathbb{R} be the indicator function of ss. The bounded Borel integral of 1s\mathbf{1}_s with respect to PP in the space WithOrderUnitNorm E\text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E is equal to the value of the projection resolution at ss, P(s)P(s), transported through the identity map ι:E→WithOrderUnitNorm E\iota : E \to \text{WithOrderUnitNorm } E. That is, ∫Ω1s(λ) dP(λ)=ι(P(s)) \int_{\Omega} \mathbf{1}_s(\lambda) \, dP(\lambda) = \iota(P(s))

definition

Scalar bounded Borel integral of projection resolution PP under normal state ω\omega in WithOrderUnitNorm R\text{WithOrderUnitNorm } \mathbb{R}

Let Ω\Omega be a measurable space and EE be a Jordan order-unit space (such as a JBW-algebra). Given a measurable projection resolution PP on Ω\Omega with values in EE, a normal state ω\omega on EE, and a measurable function f:Ω→Rf: \Omega \to \mathbb{R} bounded by some M∈RM \in \mathbb{R} (such that ∣f(x)∣≤M|f(x)| \le M for all xx), this definition computes the integral of ff with respect to the probability measure μω\mu_\omega induced by the state ω\omega. The measure is defined as μω(s)=ω(P(s))\mu_\omega(s) = \omega(P(s)) for any measurable set s⊆Ωs \subseteq \Omega. The result is the scalar value: ∫Ωf(λ) d(ω∘P)(λ) \int_{\Omega} f(\lambda) \, d(\omega \circ P)(\lambda) This value is returned as an element of the type `WithOrderUnitNorm ℝ`, which represents the real numbers equipped with the explicit order-unit norm structure.

definition

Scalar bounded Borel integral of projection resolution PP under normal state ω\omega

Let Ω\Omega be a measurable space and EE be a JBW-algebra (or a Jordan order-unit space). Given a measurable projection resolution PP on Ω\Omega with values in EE, a normal state ω\omega on EE, and a measurable function f:Ω→Rf: \Omega \to \mathbb{R} bounded by some M∈RM \in \mathbb{R} (such that ∣f(x)∣≤M|f(x)| \le M for all x∈Ωx \in \Omega), this definition computes the integral of ff with respect to the probability measure μω\mu_\omega induced by the state ω\omega. The measure is defined as μω(s)=ω(P(s))\mu_\omega(s) = \omega(P(s)) for any measurable set s⊆Ωs \subseteq \Omega. The result is the real scalar value: ∫Ωf(λ) d(ω∘P)(λ) \int_{\Omega} f(\lambda) \, d(\omega \circ P)(\lambda) This value is obtained by transporting the integral from the type `WithOrderUnitNorm ℝ` back to the standard real numbers R\mathbb{R} via the canonical isometry.

definition

Probability law of projection resolution PP under normal state ω\omega

Given a measurable projection resolution PP on a measurable space Ω\Omega with values in a JBW-algebra EE, and a normal state ω\omega on EE, this definition constructs a probability measure μ\mu on Ω\Omega. For any measurable set s⊆Ωs \subseteq \Omega, the measure is defined as the value of the state applied to the projection associated with that set, i.e., μ(s)=ω(P(s))\mu(s) = \omega(P(s)).

theorem

Evaluation of the probability law μ(s)=ω(P(s))\mu(s) = \omega(P(s)) for normal states

Let EE be a JBW-algebra and Ω\Omega be a measurable space. Let PP be a measurable projection resolution on Ω\Omega taking values in EE, and let ω\omega be a normal state on EE. For any measurable set s⊆Ωs \subseteq \Omega, the probability measure μ\mu associated with PP and ω\omega satisfies: μ(s)=ω(P(s))\mu(s) = \omega(P(s)) where P(s)P(s) is the spectral projection in EE corresponding to the event ss.
