Continuous functional-calculus effects

A continuous `[0,1]`-valued function of one intrinsic JB observable is an effect. This is the continuous precursor to the bounded Borel calculus of a spectral resolution: it packages the order consequences of the intrinsic CFC without making the CFC core depend on effects.

definition

Jordan continuous functional calculus f(a)f(a) as an effect

Let EE be a nontrivial normed Jordan algebra with a JB-order unit. For an element a∈Ea \in E and a continuous real-valued function f∈C(σ(a),R)f \in C(\sigma(a), \mathbb{R}) defined on the Jordan spectrum σ(a)\sigma(a), if ff satisfies 0≤f(x)≤10 \le f(x) \le 1 for all x∈σ(a)x \in \sigma(a), then the element f(a)f(a) obtained via the Jordan continuous functional calculus is an **effect** (an element e∈Ee \in E such that 0≤e≤10 \le e \le 1).

theorem

coe(jordanCfcEffect a f)=jordanCfc a f\text{coe}(\text{jordanCfcEffect } a \ f) = \text{jordanCfc } a \ f

Let EE be a nontrivial normed Jordan algebra with a JB-order unit. For any element a∈Ea \in E and any continuous real-valued function f∈C(σ(a),R)f \in C(\sigma(a), \mathbb{R}) on the Jordan spectrum σ(a)\sigma(a) such that 0≤f(x)≤10 \le f(x) \le 1 for all x∈σ(a)x \in \sigma(a), the element f(a)f(a) constructed as an effect (i.e., an element proven to satisfy 0≤f(a)≤10 \le f(a) \le 1) is equal to the element f(a)f(a) obtained via the standard Jordan continuous functional calculus when coerced to the algebra EE.
