Transporting a spectral measure through the Cayley transform
`Cayley/Basic.lean` gives the scalar Cayley transform `cayley : ℝ → ℂ` and its (one-sided) inverse `cayleyInverse`. This file pushes a `WOTSpectralMeasure` forward and backward along those maps (`cayleyMap`, `cayleyInverseMap`), proves the round trip on the real side is exact (`cayleyInverseMap_cayleyMap`, hence `cayleyMap_injective`), and identifies exactly which complex measures are genuine Cayley images: those supported on the unit circle away from `1` (`CayleySupported`), giving an equivalence `cayleyMeasureEquiv` between real spectral measures and Cayley-supported complex ones. This is the reusable measure-level core of the self-adjoint/unitary correspondence; no unbounded operator is mentioned in this file at all.
- `cayleyMap`, `cayleyInverseMap` : pushing a `WOTSpectralMeasure` forward/backward along the Cayley transform. - `cayleyInverseMap_cayleyMap`, `cayleyMap_injective` : the round trip on the real side, and the resulting injectivity of `cayleyMap`. - `cayleyMeasureEquiv` : the equivalence between real spectral measures and complex spectral measures supported on the unit circle away from `1`.

Pushforward of a WOT spectral measure via the Cayley transform
Given a weak-operator-topology (WOT) spectral measure on the real line taking values in the bounded operators on a Hilbert space , the Cayley map of is the pushforward spectral measure on the complex plane along the Cayley transform . For any measurable set , the resulting measure is defined by .
Pushforward of a spectral measure along the inverse Cayley transform
Let be a weak-operator-topology (WOT) spectral measure on the complex plane with values in the bounded operators on a Hilbert space . This definition constructs a WOT spectral measure on the real line by pushing forward along the inverse Cayley transform . For any measurable set , the resulting measure is given by .
Let be a Hilbert space and be a weak-operator-topology (WOT) spectral measure on the real line taking values in the bounded operators on . Let be the Cayley transform and be the inverse Cayley transform. The pushforward of along (the Cayley map) followed by the pushforward along (the inverse Cayley map) returns the original measure :
Injectivity of the Cayley map for spectral measures on
Let be a Hilbert space and let and be weak-operator-topology (WOT) spectral measures on the real line taking values in the bounded operators on . If the pushforwards of and under the Cayley transform (denoted by the `cayleyMap`) are equal, then .
is supported on
A spectral measure on the complex plane is said to be Cayley-supported if it is concentrated on the unit circle excluding the point . Formally, for every measurable set , the measure satisfies . This condition ensures that the measure is supported on the image of the real line under the Cayley transform, avoiding the point at infinity (represented by ).
for Cayley-supported measures
Let be a Hilbert space and let be a weak-operator-topology (WOT) spectral measure on the complex plane taking values in the bounded operators on . If is Cayley-supported—meaning that for every measurable set , —then applying the pushforward of the inverse Cayley transform followed by the pushforward of the Cayley transform to recovers the original measure. Mathematically, this states that for any such supported measure .
The Pushforward of a Real Spectral Measure via the Cayley Transform is Cayley-Supported
Let be a Hilbert space and be a weak-operator-topology (WOT) spectral measure on the real line with values in the bounded operators on . The pushforward spectral measure on the complex plane along the Cayley transform is Cayley-supported. That is, is concentrated on the unit circle excluding the point , satisfying for any measurable set .
Let be a Hilbert space. This definition establishes a bijective equivalence (isomorphism) between the set of weak-operator-topology (WOT) spectral measures on the real line and the set of WOT spectral measures on the complex plane that are Cayley-supported: A spectral measure is Cayley-supported if it is concentrated on the unit circle excluding the point , i.e., its support is contained in . The forward map sends a real spectral measure to its pushforward under the Cayley transform , and the inverse map sends a Cayley-supported measure to its pushforward under the inverse Cayley transform .
for WOT spectral measures via the Cayley transform
Let be a Hilbert space and be a weak-operator-topology (WOT) spectral measure on with values in the bounded operators on . Let denote the Cayley transform, and let be the pushforward spectral measure on along . For any real-valued function and any vectors , if is almost everywhere strongly measurable with respect to the pushforward of the variation of the scalar measure and is integrable with respect to , then where is the complex-valued scalar measure mapping a measurable set to the inner product .
