Complex Lorentz tensors with Gaussian integer components

A complex Lorentz tensor whose components in the standard basis are Gaussian integers can be written as `ofGaussianInt f` for a map `f` from component indices to `GaussianInt`. The product, contraction and permutation of such tensors are again of this form, so identities between them reduce to decidable equalities of Gaussian integers.

definition

Complex Lorentz tensor from Gaussian integer components f↦∑bfbebf \mapsto \sum_b f_b e_b

For a given sequence of nn representation colors c:{0,…,n−1}→Colorc: \{0, \dots, n-1\} \to \text{Color}, this map constructs a complex Lorentz tensor from a set of Gaussian integer components. Given a function f:ComponentIdx(c)→Z[i]f: \text{ComponentIdx}(c) \to \mathbb{Z}[i] that assigns a Gaussian integer to each multi-index bb, the resulting tensor in the space CT(c)\mathbb{C}T(c) is defined as the sum: ∑b∈ComponentIdx(c)ι(f(b))⋅eb \sum_{b \in \text{ComponentIdx}(c)} \iota(f(b)) \cdot e_b where ebe_b is the standard basis tensor associated with the multi-index bb, and ι:Z[i]↪C\iota: \mathbb{Z}[i] \hookrightarrow \mathbb{C} is the canonical inclusion of the Gaussian integers into the complex numbers. This map is semi-linear with respect to the inclusion ι\iota.

theorem

The component of `ofGaussianInt f` at index bb is f(b)f(b)

Let cc be a sequence of nn representation colors for complex Lorentz tensors and f:ComponentIdx(c)→Z[i]f: \text{ComponentIdx}(c) \to \mathbb{Z}[i] be a function mapping each multi-index to a Gaussian integer. If TT is the complex Lorentz tensor constructed from these Gaussian integer components (i.e., T=∑b′ι(f(b′))eb′T = \sum_{b'} \iota(f(b')) e_{b'}, where eb′e_{b'} is the standard basis and ι:Z[i]↪C\iota: \mathbb{Z}[i] \hookrightarrow \mathbb{C} is the canonical inclusion), then for any multi-index bb, the coordinate of TT with respect to the basis element ebe_b is exactly ι(f(b))\iota(f(b)).

theorem

eb=ofGaussianInt(δb,⋅)e_b = \text{ofGaussianInt}(\delta_{b, \cdot})

Let c:{0,…,n−1}→Colorc: \{0, \dots, n-1\} \to \text{Color} be a sequence of representation colors (such as Lorentz vector or Weyl spinor indices) and let CT(c)\mathbb{C}T(c) be the associated complex Lorentz tensor space. Let {eb}b∈ComponentIdx(c)\{e_b\}_{b \in \text{ComponentIdx}(c)} denote the standard basis for this space. For any specific multi-index bb, the basis tensor ebe_b is equal to the complex Lorentz tensor constructed from the Gaussian integer-valued component function f(b′)=δbb′f(b') = \delta_{b b'}, where δbb′\delta_{b b'} is the Kronecker delta (equal to 1 if b=b′b = b' and 0 otherwise).

theorem

Contraction of dual basis vectors of complex Lorentz tensors equals δij\delta_{ij}

Let cc be a representation color for the complex Lorentz tensor species (such as Weyl spinors or Lorentz vectors), and let τ(c)\tau(c) be its dual color. Let {ek}k\{e_k\}_k denote the standard basis for the complex vector space associated with cc, and let {ek′}k\{e'_k\}_k denote the standard basis for the dual space associated with τ(c)\tau(c). For any basis indices ii and jj, the contraction of the tensor product ei⊗ej′e_i \otimes e'_j is given by the Kronecker delta: contrc(ei⊗ej′)=δij \text{contr}_c(e_i \otimes e'_j) = \delta_{ij} where the result is understood as a Gaussian integer embedded in the complex numbers C\mathbb{C}.

theorem

Tensor Product of Lorentz Tensors with Gaussian Integer Components

Let cc and c1c_1 be sequences of representation colors for complex Lorentz tensors of lengths nn and n1n_1, respectively. Given two maps f:ComponentIdx(c)→Z[i]f: \text{ComponentIdx}(c) \to \mathbb{Z}[i] and f1:ComponentIdx(c1)→Z[i]f_1: \text{ComponentIdx}(c_1) \to \mathbb{Z}[i] that define the Gaussian integer components of two tensors, the tensor product of these tensors is given by: prodT(ofGaussianInt(f),ofGaussianInt(f1))=ofGaussianInt(g) \text{prodT}(\text{ofGaussianInt}(f), \text{ofGaussianInt}(f_1)) = \text{ofGaussianInt}(g) where the component map gg for the concatenated color sequence is defined by g(b)=f(b1)⋅f1(b2)g(b) = f(b_1) \cdot f_1(b_2), where b1b_1 and b2b_2 are the sub-indices of the multi-index bb corresponding to the original color sequences cc and c1c_1.

theorem

Component formula for the contraction of complex Lorentz tensors with Gaussian integer components

Let cc be a sequence of n+2n+2 representation colors for complex Lorentz tensors, and let i,j∈{0,…,n+1}i, j \in \{0, \dots, n+1\} be two distinct indices such that the representation at index jj is dual to the representation at index ii (i.e., τ(ci)=cj\tau(c_i) = c_j). For a function f:ComponentIdx(c)→Z[i]f: \text{ComponentIdx}(c) \to \mathbb{Z}[i] that assigns a Gaussian integer to each multi-index, let T=ofGaussianInt(f)T = \text{ofGaussianInt}(f) be the corresponding complex Lorentz tensor. The contraction of TT at indices ii and jj is a tensor whose components are also Gaussian integers. Specifically, for any multi-index bb in the contracted index space, the component is given by the sum: ∑x∈DropPairSectioni,j(b)f(x)⋅δxi,xj \sum_{x \in \text{DropPairSection}_{i,j}(b)} f(x) \cdot \delta_{x_i, x_j} where xix_i and xjx_j denote the values of the ii-th and jj-th indices of the multi-index xx, and δxi,xj\delta_{x_i, x_j} is the Kronecker delta (equal to 11 if the index values are equal and 00 otherwise).

theorem

Contraction formula for complex Lorentz tensors with Gaussian integer components

Let c:{0,…,n+1}→Colorc: \{0, \dots, n+1\} \to \text{Color} be a sequence of representation colors for complex Lorentz tensors. Let ii and jj be two distinct indices in {0,…,n+1}\{0, \dots, n+1\} such that the representation color at index jj is the dual of the color at index ii (i.e., τ(ci)=cj\tau(c_i) = c_j). For any function f:ComponentIdx(c)→Z[i]f: \text{ComponentIdx}(c) \to \mathbb{Z}[i] that defines the components of a tensor T=ofGaussianInt(f)T = \text{ofGaussianInt}(f), the contraction of TT at indices ii and jj is a tensor whose components are also Gaussian integers, determined by the formula: contrTi,j(ofGaussianInt(f))=ofGaussianInt(b↦∑x=0di−1f(exti,j(b,x,x))) \text{contrT}_{i,j}(\text{ofGaussianInt}(f)) = \text{ofGaussianInt} \left( b \mapsto \sum_{x=0}^{d_i-1} f(\text{ext}_{i,j}(b, x, x)) \right) where did_i is the dimension of the representation space associated with color cic_i, bb is a multi-index of length nn, and exti,j(b,x,x)\text{ext}_{i,j}(b, x, x) is the multi-index of length n+2n+2 formed by inserting the value xx at both the ii-th and jj-th positions of the multi-index bb, while preserving the relative order of the components of bb in the remaining positions.

permT(σ,ofGaussianInt f)=ofGaussianInt (f∘σ−1)\text{permT}(\sigma, \text{ofGaussianInt } f) = \text{ofGaussianInt } (f \circ \sigma^{-1})

Let c:{0,…,n−1}→Colorc: \{0, \dots, n-1\} \to \text{Color} and c1:{0,…,m−1}→Colorc_1: \{0, \dots, m-1\} \to \text{Color} be two sequences of representation colors for complex Lorentz tensors. Let σ:{0,…,m−1}→{0,…,n−1}\sigma: \{0, \dots, m-1\} \to \{0, \dots, n-1\} be a reindexing map that is a bijection and satisfies c∘σ=c1c \circ \sigma = c_1. For any function f:ComponentIdx(c)→Z[i]f: \text{ComponentIdx}(c) \to \mathbb{Z}[i] mapping multi-indices to Gaussian integers, let ofGaussianInt(f)\text{ofGaussianInt}(f) be the complex Lorentz tensor defined by these components. The permutation of this tensor by σ\sigma is given by: permT(σ,ofGaussianInt(f))=ofGaussianInt(g) \text{permT}(\sigma, \text{ofGaussianInt}(f)) = \text{ofGaussianInt}(g) where g:ComponentIdx(c1)→Z[i]g: \text{ComponentIdx}(c_1) \to \mathbb{Z}[i] is the function defined by g(b)=f(b∘σ−1)g(b) = f(b \circ \sigma^{-1}) for any multi-index b∈ComponentIdx(c1)b \in \text{ComponentIdx}(c_1), and σ−1\sigma^{-1} denotes the inverse of the reindexing map.
